Stating that private investors were interested to put their money in the sector, Gupta said, so far eight private companies have already set up their solar power generation plants having 1 MW capacity each.
As part of its policy, the state government will promote rooftop solar power units, solar heating system and solar water pump system, he indicated.
The state government also targeted generation of 80 MW of solar power within next three years, Gupta said, adding that Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has asked the Gridco Corporation of Odisha (Gridco) to purchase certain amount of renewable energy including solar power.
While the state last year generated 8 MW of solar power, 20 MW is being generated from bio-mass, official sources said, adding that the Gridco has signed power purchase agreements with eight developers for a total biomass generation of 98 MW.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata-based Alex Astral Power Private Ltd has bagged the contract for setting up of a 25 MW solar power plant in the state at an estimated investment of about Rs 300 crore. The project is likely to come up in Bolangir district.
